Aiming to enhance the goals of the “ELPIDA Youth” Committee, Emily Vafia held her first personal art exhibition at the Image Gallery in downtown Athens on Monday March 5, 2018.
The President of the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer “ELPIDA”, Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, attended the very successful exhibition. Delighted at the artist’s decision to support “ELPIDA” through her art, Mrs Vardinoyannis was guided through the event by the artist herself.
All proceeds from the exhibition will go to “ELPIDA Youth”, which, since its creation in the summer of 2015, has been involved in important work such as the renovation of the “ELPIDA” Hostel and the creation of the first therapeutic camp for children suffering from neoplastic diseases.
The theme of the 17 projects in the exhibition was emojis, the icons that we use through our mobile phones and computers to express feelings and describe situations. The artist created illustrations in illuminated plexiglass inspired by emojis, as she notes, “emojis are now the most widespread way of expression in modern times”.
After completing studies in architecture, Emily continued with a Master’s Degree in Interior Design at St Martin’s College in London. During her studies she specialised in Graphic Design.
